The erotic film is something of a bygone era. In the 1990s, the genre was in its heyday, with films like 'Basic Instinct' and 'Eyes Wide Shut'. It wasn't until the 'Fifty Shades' franchise that a mainstream attempt at reviving the genre was made. The genre's return was met with mixed results, but now that erotic films are back, it has opened up doors for more of them to come into the limelight, with films like 'Babygirl' and 'Pillion'. Director Gregg Araki is putting his take on erotic thrillers with a comedic spin.

'I Want Your Sex' follows Elliot (Cooper Hoffman, 'Licorice Pizza', 'Saturday Night'), who gets a job working for artist Erika Tracy (Olivia Wilde, 'The Invite', 'Don't Worry Darling'). Erika's art is known for being provocative and sexual, and she uses unconventional methods to get what she wants. Elliot's girlfriend, Minerva (Charli XCX, 'The Moment', 'UglyDolls'), is too focused on her studies to pay him any real attention, so when Erika eyes him to become her submissive, he jumps at the opportunity and goes head-first into this new world.

'I Want Your Sex' is a delightfully twisted blend of funny and sexy. It dips its toe into being campy while still keeping its focus on being sexy. Cooper Hoffman is perfect as Elliot, a loveable idiot, while Olivia Wilde, on her redemption tour after 'Don't Worry Darling', eats up every scene. The supporting cast, from Daveed Diggs (2023's 'The Little Mermaid') to Johnny Knoxville ('Jackass' franchise), Margaret Cho ('Fire Island') to Charli XCX, Mason Gooding ('Scream' franchise) to Chase Sui Wonders (2025's 'I Know What You Did Last Summer'), are all having a blast building this crazy colourful zany world.

Recent studies have uncovered that Gen Z doesn't want to see sex on film, and that they are, in general, having less sex than previous generations. 'I Want Your Sex' reminds us of the importance of that desire - the way sexual encounters, for better or worse, can help you discover things about yourself you never thought of.

'I Want Your Sex' is truly a wild ride, but incredibly fun. With stellar performances from Hoffman and Wilde, it's a sexy comedy that you wouldn't want to miss, which, while making us laugh, reminds us that it's okay to fulfil that sexual desire we all have buried deep inside.
