THE MASTER

Bold, original and controversial, 'The Master' pits two of Hollywood’s finest actors against each other - to give the performances of their careers. Freddie (Joaquin Phoenix, 'Walk the Line') returns home to the U.S. after World War II a broken man - disturbed, unsettled and lost, he is seeking meaning in his life, but what he mostly finds is alcohol.

Philip Seymour Hoffman ('Moneyball') is The Master, the charismatic leader of The Cause, a mysterious new movement with a fervent band of followers that some would call a cult. These two men, different in so many ways, will each affect the other profoundly. Freddie falls under The Master’s spell and becomes his protégé. Until one day he begins to question the belief system he has so passionately embraced... and the motives of his mentor.
