The documentary is an extraordinary and unique look back at WW1, using never-before-seen film footage captured at the time and narrated by British survivors of the war. An impressive feat of research, Jackson accessed 100 hours of footage from the Imperial War Museums’ film archive, along with 600 hours of actual audio recordings of British soldiers from the BBC’s archives, to weave together the basis of the film. Jackson then used state of the art technology to colorise the footage, sharpen the image, and converted it all to stereoscopic 3D, resulting in an intensely gripping, totally immersive and eerily authentic experience of events that took place over 100 years ago.
