Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2 Review

Picking up right after the events of ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’, this sequel sees the residents of Swallow Falls relocated while the disaster of the first film’s events are cleaned up courtesy of The Live Corp and its eccentric leader Chester V. (Will Forte), who also just happens to be Flint’s life-long hero. When the “clean-up” goes horribly wrong, Chester V. sends Flint (Bill Hader) to solve the problem. With his rag-tag group of friends in tow, the gang discover that Swallow Falls has since been taken over by Foodimales – animal food hybrids such as Shrimpazees, Tacodiles, Apple-piethons and a Strawberry named Barry. As the group's quest continues through this bizarre habitat of unique creatures, they begin to question Chester V’s motives and Flint’s loyalty is tested.

Just like the first film, this is a unique and wondrous feast for the eyes that will delight adults and kids alike. Featuring a cast of voices that come from the upper echelons of comedy including Anna Faris, Terry Crews and Andy Samberg and Neil Patrick Harris, the funny is free-flowing and sharp. While there is a little something for everyone here, this is no Pixar masterpiece - pure colour and movement with talking monkeys and giggles aplenty. No heartstrings are pulled, there’s no master lesson, love story or any real intelligence as the argument posed in the film is the right versus wrong of turning the foodimales into edible products – though apparently the irony that we do this in real life with cows, chickens and pigs is lost on the filmmakers and audience.
