French is, of course, the language of love. The French speak it and live it, so naturally when they want to escape their daily lives and go to the movies, they need to see something a little different - enter the ridiculous. When it comes to romantic comedies, "extreme" seems to be their mission statement, and while initially it comes off as frustratingly over-the-top to outsiders, these devices eventually fade away, allowing the core relationship to be embraced, resulting in a delightfully whimsical and endearing feature.
In ‘Fly Me To The Moon’ (aka ‘Un Plan Parfait’), when a recently divorced and emotionally distraught guest crashes a family Christmas, Corinne (Alice Pol) decides to tell her the story of their family curse and how it effected her sister Isabelle (Diane Kruger). You see, all the women in this family are doomed to see their first marriage fail. While the other ladies seems to take this on the chin (along with a wink and smile), Isabelle is determined to see the marriage to her longtime beau Pierre deemed a success. With a secret plan to travel abroad for a quickie marriage and divorce to a paid stranger, things don’t go as planned, forcing Isabelle to improvise with Jean-Yves (Dany Boon), a man she met on the plane. Her scheme takes the pair across the globe, where things go from bad to worse and from hatred to love with hilariously disastrous consequences.
FLY ME TO THE MOON - TRAILER
Kruger and Boon are fabulous. While their on-screen chemistry doesn’t quite blow you away, their performances and characters will. Once you get past the initial "but why don’t they just...” questions, the world of romantic possibilities opens up - yes, in a predictable way, but you have a damn good time getting there all the same.
